I currently provide two primary services:
Psychoeducational Evaluations. These are designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of a student's academic strengths and weaknesses in order to guide educational, psychological, and/or medical intervention planning. They help determine the presence of learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia), ADHD, anxiety, and/or other factors that might be contributing to academic challenges. The evaluations typically include cognitive (IQ) testing, achievement testing, and assessment of attention/focus, behavioral and emotional functioning. Results are often used as documentation for seeking accommodations and other types of support at public schools, private schools, colleges/universities, and organizations governing standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT.
As of 1/31/2025, evaluations are billed at one flat rate of $2,200. A $200 deposit is due at the time of scheduling with the remaining $2,000 due at the conclusion of the the feedback conferene. This fee is designed to cover all sessions related to the evaluation, so I am able to answer your referral question to the best of my ability. Here is a breakdown of the costs of a typical evaluation:
$200 deposit to cover partial costs of initial intake phone call, sending forms, rating scales, and intake documents, time spent scheduling and re-scheduling, if necessary
Usage and scoring of cognitive, achievement, and behavioral protocols, rating scales, and assessments: up to $100
Billed at about $150 per hour:
Intake communication (1 hour)
Communication with parents, teachers, tutors, pediatricians, schools, etc. (1-2 hours)
Records review (1-2 hours)
Test administration (3-6 hours)
Test scoring & Intrepretation (1-3 hours)
Preparation for feedback and feedback conference (2-3 hours)
Writing evaluation report (4-5 hours)
I am considered out-of-network with all insurance companies. As a client, you have the option of submitting a claim with your insurance company directly, where I will provide necessary documentation of services to support that endeavor. You are encouraged to contact your insurance company beforehand to verify any available coverage as well as to determine the necessary steps for seeking reimbursement. I accept cash, checks, major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX), and HSA cards.
Consultations - I also provide consultations to parents who have concerns but are not yet sure if a full psychoeducational evaluation is warranted. These sessions are billed at a rate of $200/hour in 30-minute increments (e.g., a 90-minute session would be billed at $300). During these sessions we can review previous evaluations (psychoeducational, speech/language, occupational therapy, etc.), school records, and discuss specific concerns.
Effective January 1, 2022, healthcare providers like myself are required by law to provide a "Good Faith Estimate" of expected charges to patients who either do not have insurance or are not using their insurance. By this new law, you have the right to receive an estimate of the total cost you might incur for any non-emergency items or services, and you have the right to be provided this estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
As has been described, my evaluations are billed at one flat rate, where there should not be the sorts of "surprises" in billing that this law was designed to address. In the extremely rare case that an evaluation becomes especially complex or necessitates services beyond what would be subsumed in the above fees, then we would discuss and agree upon any additional fees prior to proceeding.
